Overview of Goldendoodle Generations and Coat Types Approximate Equations

F1 Goldendoodle

The First Generation (F1) Goldendoodle is the result of a Poodle crossed with an American or English Golden Retriever which produces offspring with 50% American/English Golden Retriever & 50% Poodle.

Most first generation Goldendoodles shed little to none.  F1 Goldendoodles are compatible for most families with MILD allergies.

Most F1 Goldendoodles will have ultra cream, red, apricot or buff colored coats.  They are very consistent in coat types. They are generally very nice plush to loose wavy coats.  Occasionally an F1 breeding will produce a more plush curly coat.

Golden Retriever x Poodle (50% Poodle / 50% Golden Retriever) = Some will shed a little to none.  Allergy Friendly.   Loose wavy/ Shaggy coat.

F1B Goldendoodle

F1 Goldendoodle x Poodle (75% Poodle / 25% Golden Retriever) = Most F1B’s are Non-shedders, and the lowest of dander. Recommended for families with high allergy concerns. Curly coats.

Please note that a Goldendoodle crossed back to a Golden Retriever is not an F1B! This cross is never recommended when non shedding is the goal.

This cross could shed as much as a purebred Golden Retriever. These dogs will not have the curly teddy bear look of the F1 or the F1B.

F2 Goldendoodle

F1 Goldendoodle X F1 Goldendoodle (50% Golden / 50% Poodle) = Some will shed a little to none.

F2B Goldendoodle

F1 Goldendoodle X F1B Goldendoodle (62.5% Poodle / 37.5% Golden Retriever) = The Most Curly Ones Usually Do Not Shed (like An F1B). Straighter ones will shed like an F1.

F3 Multi-Gen Goldendoodle

F1B Goldendoodle X F1B Goldendoodle (75% Poodle / 25% Golden Retriever) = The Most Curly Ones Usually Do Not Shed (like An F1B). Straighter ones will shed like an F1.  Curly Coats.

F2B Goldendoodle X F2B Goldendoodles (62.5% Poodle / 37.5% Golden Retriever) = The Most Curly Ones Usually Do Not Shed (like An F1B). Straighter ones will shed like an F1.

F2B Goldendoodle X F2 Goldendoodle (45% Poodle / 55% Golden Retriever) = The Most Curly Ones Usually Do Not Shed (like An F1B). Straighter ones will shed like an F1.

F1BB Goldendoodle

(85% poodle / 15% golden retriever). The backcross (F1BB) Goldendoodle is produced by crossing an F1B Goldendoodle with a Poodle. The F1BB Goldendoodle is 85% Poodle. They are the very most hypo-allergenic of all doodle crosses.

Teddy- Bear Goldendoodles

A lot of breeders like to misuse this term to describe their puppies. But let there be no mistake… The Teddy-Bear Goldendoodle only comes from a English Cream Golden Retriever and a poodle in the first generations.
